Studio FB USA is a photography studio at 115 Crosscut Lane in Summerville, South Carolina, and maternity is one of the sessions we photograph most. A maternity session is a planned portrait sitting for the last stretch of a pregnancy: guided posing, light built around you, and a gallery finished by hand. Sessions happen in our Summerville studio, where the light and the temperature are ours to set, or on location around the Charleston area. We work in English, Portuguese and Spanish, so the whole thing can be planned in the language you think in.

Our answer to the first is geography. The studio is in Summerville, minutes from Nexton, Cane Bay and Knightsville, and a straight run up I-26 from North Charleston, Charleston and Mount Pleasant. Late summer through October and the weeks after New Year are the busiest stretch of the year for pregnancy and baby sessions in the Lowcountry, and weekend dates in that stretch are the first to go.
Decide the look before the day.
Classic and sculptural, or quiet and documentary with your partner and children in the frame. Both can happen in one sitting when we know in advance.
Arrive and be directed.
You sit when you want to, drink water, see the frames as they come in, and move to the next setup at your own speed.
Editing by hand, frame by frame.
Skin stays skin, distractions go, and we do not reshape bodies.
Maternity photos in the studio or outdoors in the Lowcountry
The two options produce genuinely different pictures, and the choice is worth making on purpose rather than by default.
In the studio, every variable belongs to us. The light is built, the background is chosen, the room is cool in July and warm in January, and an afternoon thunderstorm changes nothing. That control is why studio maternity portraits hold their shape: a single directional source traces the curve of a belly in a way open shade never will.
Outdoors, the Lowcountry supplies what no studio can: marsh light, oak shade, open water, and the particular hour before sunset. Outdoor sessions are scheduled by the sun rather than by the clock, which means a start time that moves through the year and a backup date built in. Coastal humidity peaks in midsummer; October and early spring are the kindest months for standing outside in a long dress.
When the timing allows, a session can begin in the studio and finish outside.
