Newborn Photography

Two weeks old is a temporary condition.

Studio FB USA photographs newborns from a private studio at 115 Crosscut Lane in Summerville, South Carolina, for families across the Charleston area. A newborn session is a specialty rather than a shorter family session: a warm quiet room, soft light, very few props, and a clock that answers to the baby. Sessions take place in the studio or in your own home, whichever suits the first weeks better. We work in English, Portuguese and Spanish, which is one reason Brazilian and Hispanic families across the Lowcountry plan their first sessions with us.

A newborn session is unlike anything else we photograph, because nothing about it can be scheduled to the minute. Babies feed, need changing, wake up angry and fall asleep again, and a session that fights that produces tense photographs. So the room is kept warm, the sound is kept low, one family is booked at a time, and the session lasts as long as the baby needs it to.

Safety is not a feature of the session, it is the method. Hands stay on the baby at every moment, ours or yours, and the poses that appear to defy gravity are assembled afterward from frames in which somebody was always holding on. Nothing balanced, nothing propped, nothing left to luck.

Families come to us from Summerville, Goose Creek, Ladson, Moncks Corner, North Charleston, Mount Pleasant and Charleston. For the ones who would rather not put a nine day old in a car seat, we come to you instead.

When to book newborn photos in Summerville, SC

Age changes what a newborn session can be, and none of the options are wrong.

Holding a date works like this: send us the due date, we mark the week, and you confirm the day itself from the hospital or from home. An early arrival, a late one or a few extra days under observation move the mark rather than cancel it. Late summer through October and the weeks after New Year are the heaviest months for baby sessions in the Charleston area, so a due date in that stretch is worth mentioning as early as you know it.

  • Five to fourteen days.

The curled, deeply asleep look most people picture. It is the shortest window on this page, and the reason these dates get claimed months ahead of the birth.

  • Three to six weeks.

More wrapped and cradled setups, more time awake, more of the parents in frame.

  • Later in the first year.

Sitting up, standing, first birthday. A different session with a different rhythm.

Studio newborn portraits or an in home session in Charleston, SC

Two settings, two different sets of photographs.

The studio is the controlled version. Temperature, light, sound and background are all set before you arrive, which is what makes the quiet posed frames and the close details possible: hands, feet, the curve of an ear, the eyelashes that will not look like that again.

An in home session is the documentary version, photographed in your nursery and your own window light, with the older child climbing on the bed and the dog in at least one frame. There is less styling and more watching. It also removes the drive, which matters more to some families than any picture.

Either way, bring what you want remembered: a blanket someone knitted, a keepsake, something that says where the family comes from. Parents and siblings photograph best in solid colors without logos, and siblings are photographed early, while patience lasts.

Newborn and first year sessions across the Charleston area

Studio FB USA photographs newborns for families in Summerville, Charleston, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, Goose Creek, Moncks Corner and Ladson, in the studio at 115 Crosscut Lane or in your home across the same area.

Most families do not stop at one session. The first year has four natural marks: the pregnancy, the first two weeks, the months of sitting up, and the first birthday. Photographed by the same studio, they carry the same light and the same editing, which is what lets them hang together as a set instead of four unrelated pictures.

To claim a week on the calendar, call or text (843) 727-5264 or use the contact form with your due date, the town you are in, and whether you would prefer the studio or your home.
