Newborn Photography for Summerville and Charleston Families
Studio FB USA photographs newborn sessions for families across Summerville and the Charleston area from a studio in Summerville, South Carolina. Parents from North Charleston, West Ashley, James Island, Mount Pleasant and downtown Charleston bring their babies to us in the first weeks of life for portraits that are calm, carefully lit and safe.
Newborn photography rewards specialization. The lighting is soft and low, the props are few, the palette is quiet, and the pace is set entirely by the baby. Families who have tried to photograph a newborn at home with a phone know how hard it is to get the light right and the baby settled at the same time. That is the work we do, and the reason people drive from Charleston to Summerville for it.
We work in English, Portuguese and Spanish, and a good share of the newborns we photograph belong to Brazilian and Hispanic families in the Lowcountry. Planning a session this personal in your own language removes a lot of the friction.
Studio Newborn Sessions or Lifestyle Sessions at Home
There are two ways to photograph a newborn, and we do both. A studio newborn session is the posed, timeless style: the baby wrapped or curled on a soft surface, macro details of fingers and toes, a few simple props and clean backgrounds. The studio gives us total control over temperature, light and noise, which is what makes the deep-sleep poses possible.
A lifestyle newborn session happens at your home, in the Summerville or Charleston area, and documents the first weeks as they really are: the nursery, the light from your own windows, the baby in your arms on the couch, an older child peering into the crib. There is less posing and more observation. Some families choose one style, some combine them by starting in the studio and finishing with a few frames at home.
Either way, the baby leads. Feeding breaks, diaper changes and a fussy stretch are part of every newborn session and are planned for, not squeezed in. Nothing about the session depends on a clock.
Siblings, Parents and the Whole Family
A newborn session is also a family session. New parents are photographed with the baby in simple, close frames; older siblings get their own moment with the new arrival, usually early in the session while they are still patient. These are the photographs that grandparents ask for first.
Dress the family in solid, neutral colors so the baby stays the focus of each frame, and avoid large logos or busy patterns. For siblings under four, keep expectations modest: one or two good frames are a success, and the rest of the session is for the baby.
If you are photographed with us during pregnancy, both galleries are edited in the same style, so the maternity and newborn images sit naturally together in an album or on a wall. Many Charleston-area families plan the two sessions at once for exactly that reason.
Reserve Your Date Before the Baby Arrives
The ideal window for posed newborn photography is the first five to fourteen days, which is why the session is reserved during pregnancy. You share your due date, Studio FB USA holds a tentative slot around it, and the exact day is fixed once the baby is born. Early or late arrivals are simply moved.
The studio is at 115 Crosscut Lane, Summerville, SC 29486, and serves families from Summerville, Goose Creek, Moncks Corner, Ladson, North Charleston, Mount Pleasant and Charleston. In-home lifestyle sessions are available throughout the same area.
Families in the Charleston area sometimes ask whether a newborn session is worth it if the baby is fussy or has a rash, or if the parents are exhausted. The honest answer is that every newborn is fussy at some point, minor skin marks are handled in editing, and exhausted parents are the norm. The session is built for exactly that reality: a warm room, a slow pace, breaks whenever they are needed, and a photographer who has settled a great many babies. What you get at the end is a set of images from a week you will not remember clearly, and that is the point.
